Somatus Receives Validation of Claim that it Reduces Hospital Readmissions for Patients With Kidney Disease
Somatus, a kidney care company known for its value-based approach, has announced the renewal of its Validation Institute certification for 2023. This certification attests to the claim that patients living with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who receive Somatus Transitions of Care Assessment (TCA) services experience fewer hospital readmissions compared to similar patients who do not receive TCA services. Somatus was the first kidney care company to achieve validation status from the Validation Institute in 2022.
Dr. Joe Kimura, Chief Medical Officer at Somatus, expressed his dedication to enhancing patient care, saying, “As we continue to deliver our whole-person care model at scale, our care teams are doing the necessary work to keep our patients from experiencing unplanned readmissions and remain healthier at home.”
In the renewed validation process, Somatus expanded its analysis to include over 14,000 TCAs performed in patients with Stage 3 kidney disease. This expansion was in addition to patients with Stage 4 and end-stage kidney disease who were included in the previous analysis. The comprehensive analysis aimed to verify the program’s efficacy in reducing unplanned 30-day rehospitalization rates for a broader CKD population. Participants in the TCA program were found to be 49% less likely to experience hospital readmission for post-attribution discharges compared to similar non-participants. The Validation Institute reviewed Somatus’ claims and found them to be accurate. The Validation Institute’s statisticians and epidemiologists perform rigorous evaluations of claims made by healthcare companies and issue Validated Program Reports to brands whose claims withstand independent data verification.
Studies have shown that the average cost of hospitalization for a patient with kidney disease exceed $15,000 and that many of these hospitalizations are preventable.
Somatus is on track to help 160,000 individuals manage their kidney health in 2023. The company uses an its integrated model, prioritizing holistic patient well-being. They aim to eliminate barriers that hinder proper care and foster stronger connections among patients, healthcare providers, and kidney health. Their approach involves providing care when and where it’s needed. This includes education, support, and coaching, all administered locally by dedicated kidney health professionals and community connectors. Somatus also places a strong emphasis on forging deeper patient-provider connections through data-driven insights. These insights inform decision-making, enhance patient care, and ultimately lead to improved outcomes. To ensure real-time visibility and impact, Somatus utilizes advanced analytics and clinical workflows within their proprietary platform. This technology helps deliver precisely the right care to the right person at the right time.
