PacBio Expands Tertiary Analysis Ecosystem With Two New Genomic Analysis Software Partners
11-1-23 (by: Scott Gleason) PacBio has announced the addition of two new tertiary analysis partners to its growing PacBio Compatible ecosystem with the addition of Geneyx and Golden Helix. PacBio will offer the new software solutions for its Revio, Sequel II, and Sequel IIe sequencing systems. PacBio and other disruptive sequencing technology providers have been actively upgrading their suite of software solutions and sequencing chemistry/workflow providers to better compete against market stalwart Illumina.
Genomic research often involves a multi-step process encompassing primary, secondary, and tertiary analysis. Tertiary analysis plays a pivotal role in extracting knowledge from genetic data, incorporating crucial tasks such as annotation, filtering, data visualization, and can offer vital support for the study of complex genetic events like structural variations. These new collaborations are designed to maximize the utility of HiFi data, enriching the overall workflow and research capabilities for PacBio customers. Studies have shown that HiFi sequencing, offered by PacBio, does a good job at detecting structural variants (SVs) compared to shorter read sequences. These SVs are critical in understanding the genetic diversity among individuals and are known to be associated with disease development. The tertiary analysis tools developed by Geneyx and Golden Helix will enable PacBio customers to expedite their interpretation of these important variants, making it easier to derive biological insights from the genomic data. Geneyx’s software solutions currently have over 4,000 users and Golden Hellix’s software is used by over 400 institutions with over 40,000 product installs.
Jeff Eidel, Chief Commercial Officer at PacBio, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing the best data quality and data interpretation tools, stating, “Primary and secondary analysis solutions are available through our SMRT Analysis Software, the recently released PacBio WGS Variant Pipeline, and analysis partners such as GoogleHealth, all of which provide the best quality of data to power biological interpretation. Through our new partnerships with Geneyx and Golden Helix, researchers can accelerate their discoveries and find solutions from sample to answer across their HiFi-based workflows.”
