Helix Announces Another Major Population Genomics Partnership With Cone Health
11-8-23 (by: Scott Gleason) Helix, the leading population genomics company in the country, and Cone Health, a North Carolina based non-profit health system have announced a new population health study focused on enrolling 100,000 healthy individuals over the course of five years. Participants in this program will undergo genetic testing using Helix’s population genomics platform, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of their genetic predisposition to certain diseases and conditions.
The program aims to help Cone Health identify and mitigate health risks within specific communities, ultimately fostering the overall well-being of the population. The data will be utilized to design wellness programs that match the specific needs of the community. Cone Health hopes that the data will uncover risk predispositions to major health conditions such as breast, ovarian, colorectal cancer, and high cholesterol. The program will be provided at no cost to participants. The Cone Health program is set to become one of the largest population health projects in the region.
Helix will also provide Cone Health with genetic panels for addressing additional health conditions with the company’s “Sequence Once, Query Often” model allowing participants to perform additional queries without requiring additional samples.
Helix has announced other similar partnerships with major health networks including St. Luke’s Hospital Network, WellSpan Health, Nebraska Medicine, The Healthy Nevada Project, Mayo Clinic, HealthPartners, AdventHealth, and Medical University of South Carolina.
Dr. James Lu, CEO and Co-Founder of Helix, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing its potential to shape future generations’ health in North Carolina. By joining forces with Cone Health, one of the region’s largest and most comprehensive healthcare networks, the program can make a profound impact on public health across the state.
