GE Healthcare Integrates Caption Guidance Heart Failure AI Technology Into Ultrasound Solutions
GE HealthCare has unveiled an upgraded version of its Venue Family point-of-care ultrasound systems, featuring Caption Guidance, an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven technology aimed at aiding healthcare providers in capturing high-quality cardiac images in real-time. This development follows GE HealthCare’s acquisition of Caption Health, integrating their scan guidance technology into its ultrasound products.
Caption Care offers FDA-cleared AI-guided imaging acquisition software, powered by Caption Health, to healthcare providers. This technology empowers healthcare professionals, regardless of their ultrasound expertise, to perform high-quality ultrasound exams with guidance from AI, ensuring diagnostic-quality images. The software not only assists in image acquisition but also evaluates image quality and calculates ejection fraction, a key indicator of heart failure. Studies have found that there is a prevalence of asymptomatic (Stage B) heart failure of over 30% of the 55+ population and aims to combat the misdiagnosis rate, which ranges from 16% in hospitals to 69% in primary care settings. Additionally, 46% of heart failure patients diagnosed in acute care settings had potential symptoms in the six months prior, emphasizing the importance of early detection. The technology has the potential to enhance early detection of heart disease signs in at-risk patients, ultimately leading to improved clinical outcomes through early intervention and, potentially, fewer hospitalizations. It is estimated 6.5 million individuals in the United States have heart failure and that there are 960,000 new cases annually.
Caption Guidance, is now available in the United States and is part of the Verisound suite of technologies. GE plans to expand the technology’s use to address maternal, fetal, and pulmonary diseases, reflecting their commitment to making a positive impact with this AI-driven solution.
