Dexcom Canada and RxFood Partner to Improve Diabetes Management; RxFood App Shown To Improve Diabetes Outcomes in Clinical Studies
In a new collaboration, Dexcom, a global leader in continuous glucose monitoring for people with diabetes, and RxFood Corporation, a pioneer in AI-driven personalized nutrition assessments, have joined forces to introduce an new digital health solution in Canada. This partnership aims to provide an enhanced and more personalized care experience for individuals living with diabetes. The cornerstone of the agreement is the next-generation RxFood app, which now integrates with Dexcom’s continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data. This advanced app is now available to healthcare program stakeholders across Canada, including clinics, hospitals, health authorities, pharmacies, insurers, and employers, with a focus on diabetes and nutrition management programs. Users of the Dexcom G6 CGM system or the upcoming Dexcom G7 CGM system will now gain access to combined food and glucose data, enabling a comprehensive understanding of their health and glucose control.
Users of the app can capture images of their meals using the app, eliminating the need for manual food tracking. RxFood then generates detailed diet quality metrics in real-time, and combines this data with glucose information. This incremental information is then easily accessible to both patients and their healthcare providers. This integration allows for effective diabetes management and the delivery of personalized nutritional guidance on a broader scale.
The effectiveness of RxFood has been demonstrated through a three-year clinical trial conducted at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario. The trial, which focused on families of children with diabetes demonstrated improved accuracy in carbohydrate counting, a significant reduction in counting errors exceeding 10 grams, and lower A1C levels.
Other studies have shown users of the app have an average reduction of 0.80% in A1c levels over a three-month period in a randomized controlled trial (RCT) involving individuals with Type 1 diabetes, a high level of patient satisfaction was reported, with 94% of users indicating that RxFood was the preferred method for tracking food, average time savings of 75% during the process of obtaining a dietary history, as reported in a survey, an average reduction of 1.6 mmol/L in triglyceride levels based on clinic analysis and an average reduction of 0.36 mmol/L in LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol levels over three months.
