Baxter Launches New Software Application Allowing the Capture of Eye Images on a Smart Phone During Opthalmoscope Procedures
Baxter International Inc. (NYSE: BAX), announced an addition to its Welch Allyn PanOptic Plus Ophthalmoscope, the iExaminer Pro System. This new technology enables healthcare professionals to perform digital image capture during eye exams, thus enhancing their ability to diagnose and monitor the eye health of patients.
The PanOptic Plus Ophthalmoscope, coupled with the iExaminer Pro System, introduces the capability to connect a smart device, such as a smartphone or tablet, to capture high-quality images during eye examinations. When used in conjunction with the iExaminer Pro App, clinicians can securely save and share eye images, enabling the tracking and trending of eye health over time and allowing for more informed consultations with specialists.
According to Dr. Julie Jakubowski, M.D., F.A.C.P., Head of Medical Affairs, Front Line Care, Baxter, “Examining the structure of the eyes is a critical part of assessing patient health. The PanOptic Plus Ophthalmoscope with iExaminer Pro System helps to enable healthcare providers to catch issues early on in a primary care setting, easily collaborate with specialists, and facilitates patients getting the diagnosis, care, and treatment they need in a timely manner.”
Notably, the iExaminer Pro System has been in use with Baxter’s Welch Allyn MacroView Plus Otoscope since 2021. Baxter’s PanOptic Plus and MacroView Plus tools offer clinicians larger and more detailed views compared to standard ophthalmoscopes and otoscopes. They also feature long-lasting LED lamps and DuraShock technology, ensuring durability and reliability for healthcare professionals. The newly introduced iExaminer Pro System is now available in the United States and will be showcased at two upcoming events: the American Academy of Pediatrics National Conference & Exhibition (Oct. 20-24) and the American Academy of Family Physicians Family Medicine Experience conference (Oct. 26-29).
