Avita Medical Wins Best Product Award for Second Straight Year at American Association for the Surgery of Trauma Meeting with RECELL Spray-On Skin Cells
AVITA Medical, a pioneering regenerative medicine company specializing in skin restoration, has received the Best Product award for its RECELL® System at the Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) for the second consecutive year. This prestigious award was presented at the 82nd annual meeting, which attracted over 700 physicians and scientists dedicated to investigating and treating various trauma-related conditions and surgical critical care. Dr. Carmen Flores, Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, presented the groundbreaking “RECELL® Spray-On™ Skin Cells: A New Option for Treating Full-Thickness Defects” in a well-attended Product Theater symposium. Additionally, Dr. Sharon Henry, Professor of Surgery and Director of the Division of Wound Healing and Metabolism at the University of Maryland Medical Center, presented the results of AVITA Medical’s pivotal trial for full-thickness skin defects. The study’s results were recently accepted for publication in AAST’s Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery. Alongside these accomplishments, Dr. Henry led a workshop for local high school students, providing exposure to trauma surgery as a potential career path. AVITA Medical supported this initiative, underlining its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in collaboration with the AAST Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. AVITA Medical is a leading developer and commercializer of devices and autologous cellular therapies for skin restoration, with its RECELL® System at the forefront of innovation in the field. The system is FDA-approved for the treatment of thermal burn wounds, full-thickness skin defects, and repigmentation of stable depigmented vitiligo lesions. It utilizes the regenerative properties of a patient’s own skin to create Spray-On Skin™ cells, ultimately leading to improved clinical outcomes. The RECELL System has also received approvals in international markets for various applications, including burns, soft tissue repair, vitiligo, and aesthetics. Avita Medical has been growing rapidly based upon the commercial success and expansion of clinical indications for RECELL. In the second quarter of 2023 the company’s revenues grew 42% over the prior year.
