Musculoskeletal disorders (MSK) affect a significant portion of the American population, with an estimated 126 million Americans grappling with these conditions annually, according to the World Health Organization. The economic burden of MSK disorders in the United States amounts to approximately $505 billion each year, encompassing direct treatment costs as well as indirect costs related to absenteeism, mental health concerns, and obesity.
Sword’s digital physical therapy platform uses Advanced Motion Sensors in wearables to detect precise movements during sessions. The Digital Therapist uses this data to offer real-time feedback and adjustments. The system provides access to advanced clinical data analysis and a dashboard and physical therapists (PTs) connect with members frequently, adjusting programs after each session. This approach has been proven to outperform high-intensity in-person PT sessions. Since the year 2020, Sword Health members have collectively completed 27 million minutes of physical therapy. One of the primary benefits of Sword’s approach is the freedom it gives members to complete their therapy sessions from anywhere, eliminating the need for million trips to in-person rehabilitation clinics. In clinical studies, Sword Health has demonstrated that 62% of members experience freedom from pain, 50% of members no longer screen positive for anxiety, and 68% of members report a significant boost in productivity. The company also recently signed a distribution partnership with Costco who is now offering Telehealth services.
